I would say that those strikes are an attempt to benefit thousands of ordinary households as opposed to appeasing a single, immensely privileged household.

But they are still going to mean that thousands of people won't get their appointments, procedures and will wait longer.
It's ok though, no-one will grumble or being a little bit grumpy at all will they, well unless @Ian H has his appointment postponed again.

The health staff are being led in to a trap by their union leaders, Monday is no-one in the NHS's fault and people are moaning, wait until the cancellations happen because of a vote the health staff have taken. Carnage.

Is it not? The way I read 'dedicated' is that it will be.

@winjim 's post has a little joke in it.

We do all the time, I work a four day week with a Mon-Thur & Tue_Fri pattern so in essence every weekend off and every other one is a 4 day one. Depending how our Monday's off fall we can sometimes have 4 days extra leave added to our allowance, this one will be no different for those rostered off already on Monday.
Your lucky...but overtime/double time,Sundays, days in lieu. There rarer and almost unheard of in a lot of jobs nowadays.

Or give much away to the needy either I shouldn't wonder.

Let them eat cake, as as a famous queen once said.

A strike for decent pay strikes me as a valid reason for postponement (short-term inconvenience for long-term benefit).
An old lady's funeral does not.

But the Government has dictated that we can have a bank holiday for this old lady's funeral. As was pointed out elsewhere - that means schools are closed, so people will need to look after children, which means you can't just run things normally.

It's a bank holiday.

I'm amazed that people are so begrudging of allowing NHS workers to have a bank holiday.

Whether you or I approve of the monarchy is irrelevant on this occasion. We have a monarchy, and to many millions of people she is not just 'an old lady' but someone they respect for the role she has carried out for 70 years.

Hopefully, perhaps the attitudes to monarchy in this country will change even quicker now that Charles is king but for the moment it is what it is and no amount of self-indulgent carping from the sideline will change that.
