I'm not in a position to decide who enters the country or not though am I (I know she isn't now) but don't you find it a bit hypocritical that someone who's not too distant ancestors came to this country and now she's trying to stop them?

As a matter of interest why have me spell out the obvious, so you could point out we're all Immigrants?

Whereas in fact due to the effect of Brexit making it harder for Europeans to come here Indians are the largest group to come to this country in recent years.

Your second point,

I didn't.

What exactly is your point here?

Do you think she's a hypocrite or not, I do which was the point I was making so why all the questions?

She's not trying to stop them. We need them.

Try to follow the thread of the posts.

Right then here goes,

I commented on a post pointing out Patel was trying to stop people coming into the country by sending them to Rowanda, with me so far?

I said 'sounds like a good idea, although a bit hypocritical' (considering her family were once immigrants) you then asked me 'how so' or something like that and I've now explained.

I've simply been replying to what you've asked, don't try and patronise me.

everything to do with her attempts to stop anyone getting into the country by deporting them to Rwanda

Sounded like a good idea to me, bit hypocritical though considering?

FFS, she's obviously of foreign heritage herself yet doesn't like other people doing the same.

Or have I missed something?
Who's the one not 'keeping up'?

For once I agree with @shep that it is not unreasonable to consider Priti Patel to be a hypocrite. Nor for that matter a number of other senior politicians.

The adage "Do as I say, not as I do" springs to mind...

or you could say she's just doing the job we pay here to do??? is that not unreasonable, doesnt matter how she came into this country or her parents. But it seems that some think it does and therefore add pathetic name calling to the post.

Parents of both Patel and Braverman were East African Asians who came here in the sixties/seventies. Governments of both Kenya and Uganda were discriminating against that group. As such they'd have been eligible to seek refugee status AND have a legal route by which to do so.

While Patel frequently mentioned legal routes they were, for practical purposes and as a matter of policy, non existent.

I detached observer might detect some hypocrisy there.

The Secretary of State has overall responsibility for all Home Office business, including:
  • overarching responsibility for the departmental portfolio and oversight of the ministerial team
  • cabinet
  • National Security Council (NSC)
  • public appointments
  • oversight of the Security Service
  • overall responsibility for the Home Office response to COVID-19 including health measures at the border and police powers to enforce lockdown
It is not part of the Home Secretary's job to drown people in the channel nor to waste money deporting people to third world countries with questionable human rights policies.

Or shes doing the job shes been asked to do and we pay her to do…….not all jobs will be listed on a job description, even though you may think they are. Additional responsibilities can be added by her boss at anytime, as long as there is agreement between them both.
