I don't know the case, obviously. But it looks from the initial report that perhaps feelings were used instead of facts. A judge doesn't care how much it has upset you, when you're claiming financial reimbursement

Reading the summary of the judgement ( actual judgement is 400 pages long) it seems you've summed it up well. The claimants whilst thet think the paper had used unlawful means were unable to prove that and paper was able to give credible explanations of how they got the material lawfully.

The biggest winners here are the lawyers ( unless they were doing it as no win no fee cases)

I didn't follow the case but it does sound a bit of an optimistic attempt. Most celeb stories come from friends and employees; it would be pretty hard to conclusively prove phone hacking. That thing about a witness statement being forged is very odd. The Guardian are estimating the losers legal costs at £50m, which seems incredible.

Harry should've been a nonce instead, it cost the queen a lot less than that for Harry's uncle.

Either incompetent lawyers who don;t know the rules (unlikely)
or clients that insist on proceeding in spite of what the lawyers say

It wasn't just Harry. One of the participants in the group action was Doreen Lawrence. I really hope she isn't being saddled with a large legal bill.

My reading of the judgment is that it probably did happen but you need evidence to prove it.

The fact that these types of stories don’t seem to be as common in papers suggests the papers can’t get the information from usual sources.
