Does anybody here take the Greens seriously?

That would be really something, greens considered more bonkers than Corbyn.

We'll have to wait for Jezza's policies, I understand they are still squabbling over the top table seating

Surely they need a name and some meaningless but slightly revolutionary sounding slogan first? However seems they are struggling with the first one so I don't hold up much hope for the other stuff.

Even I'm allowed a night out now and again, Rusty. I base my assessment of Monkers status on more than just one post. You can read that thread and join the dots or you can spend another 900 pages being mugged off. Even the new profile pic of the supposedly recently bereaved - 'It's your problem now because I'm dead' - is trolling you. The arguments stand on their own merit regardless of who makes them. I'm simply not joining in with the charade.

Does it actually matter if no one is the anonymous person they don't say they are?

Yes if they continually use that persona as giving weight and authority to their argument.

Otherwise not so much as the arguments should stand on their own merit regardless of who makes them.

So no proof then, and the “gotcha” about being outed was false, but there must be fire because there’s smoke.

Anyway, apologies to all for adding to the derailment of a thread about the Greens. No more from me.

Bloody right. You'll choose between Starmer, Badenoch & Farage AND YOU'LL DAMN WELL LIKE IT.

This is the level of reasoning that will result in a Reform government. It is people dissatisfied with the status quo looking for some magical alternative, i.e. looking for a golden rivet.

As anyone in the navy will tell you, if you bend down to try to pick up a golden rivet, you are buggered.

How are we feeling about Zack's thoughts that we should legalise ALL drugs, including heroin? It would certainly help that £12k universal income find it's way back into the local economy. (I can't find their official party policy btw)

"Speaking to BBC South East ahead of his party conference, Zack Polanski said he agreed with a Kent Green councillor, who earlier this year called for the legalisation of all drugs, including class A drugs like heroin and crack cocaine."

How is that going to help womens' rights?!?

It wasn't my intended point but, since you mention it, such things have historically been related, as seen in the history of the temperance movement. Less relevant these days as substance addiction is increasingly a problem for both sexes.

They are certainly taking the argument of relaxing drug criminalisation and running with it. However...

The article starts with the proposal of legalising all drugs, and follows with the suggestion that policy should be informed by public health experts instead.

That is a potential contradiction.

Some drugs are just harmful. Ketamine for example. If you are legalising ketamine, presumably regulating how it is made so it is "safe", presumably taxing manufacturers and distributors of fun ketamine products to pay for the regulation and for ongoing NHS treatment of, inter alia, large increases in chronic bladder disorders, then the state is effectively allowing the private sector to profit from increased harm and taxing the population being harmed in order to pay for the consequences.

One might argue that this is already done for tobacco and alcohol, but I don't think that's a convincing argument for making things worse.

But hey, don't let reality get in the way of a nice clean simple populist policy.

I'll admit to being torn by this. Theoretically I think all drugs should be legal, too; this despite being a pretty boring person, pharmacologically speaking.

As for beard of the year, wasn't Peter Murrell in the running in times past?

In line with my thoughts. We have lost the battle to control them, so, legalise, regulate and tax, just like the current legal drugs, alcohol and tobacco. Improve health education, and, if adults wish to take the risk, so be it.

Legalising something does not make it freely available. eg alcohol is legal but not freely availabel to everybody.

In effect all these drugs are already readily available. Easier to buy many than getting a take-away delivered. Except when you buy stuff now you don't actually know what you are buying and what you might be sold will often be laced with other stuff, stuff that isn't good (personal experience fortunately with only short term effects).

So situation now is a complete disaster so seems to me that it's very sensible to look at options and find better ways forward. What would constitute a better way forward I can't say and we'd need to take advice from those more expert in the field.
