Lots of things that humans do to others are hard to stop. I think we should work towards stopping them though and not regard them as inevitable.

Countries where religion holds sway don't really try to stop prostitution. They only stop it for the populace in order to maintain religious face, not for the powerful or elite. See Afghanistan's dancing boys and Saudi Arabia's 'potty parties', plus the Catholic Church historically.

If wishes were horses we'd all have a ride.

Religion is a red herring in this argument about legalising prostitution. It is about human nature and all its weaknesses. Control and minimising of problems is often the best we can aim for.

Again, the implication of the thread title is hard to disagree with, when they come up with this sort of thing.

Agree, assuming the majority of the population are thinking as deeply as they should.

Even without a lot of finkin', Polanski's suggestion here would fall apart here with the slightest bit of prodding. At least come up with something coherent.

Yeah, it's disappointing (I'm a member of the Green party for now, rethinking it actually).

It suggests that either he's not thinking these things through, or that he hasn't really got the kind of principles from which he can argue coherent policies in the first place, so resorts to the populist 'easy answer'.

I'm much more likely to admire politicians, even if I disagree with them, if you can tell that they have a core set of beliefs which inform everything and form a coherent whole. I think Caroline Lucas was probably more of that mould.

Fancy suggesting that politicians should help people by mitigating energy bill spikes in the short term whilst switching to renewables to prevent those spikes in the long term. What utter cads and hypocrits.

You will possibly be not surprised that this isn't the only thing giving me pause over my party choices.
