What about 45X, 47XXY, 47XXX, 47XYY, 48XXYY, 48XXXY, 48XXXX, 48XXXXY and 48XXXXX?It has to do with XX, or XY DNA there is no grey area. If you've got XY you are a male.
And then there is mosaicism 46XY/47XXY and 45X/47XXX
It *is* true to say that in humans a Y chromosome is needed in order for a human to develop testes which makes them male. However it is possible for the SRY gene to be transposed to an X chromosome and thus have someone with female DNA but who has testes. Of course having ovaries or testes doesn't mean that you can produce gametes which in turn makes it even harder to classify as male or female.
Whilst I appreciate that we need to be fair and ensure that Women's sports are fair, it's not true to say that in DNA there is no grey area. Biology is messy. That's why physicists don't like it!
