Sure but the loyal Trump support has been sold the idea that through tariffs, they were getting robbed.
They will get robbed when they have pay more for goods for no other reason than Der Trumpfen's obsession and clear lack of understanding of basic economics. What the hell sort of advice is his backroom giving him!?

Add bigger tariffs = add cost of things Dougal. Next week: little cows and big cows.

I do admire Carney and the Canadians for their resolve and consistency.

He chose his backroom so gets the advise he deserves.

The balance of trade with the USA, is most countries around the world sell vast amounts to them. In the short term, yes tariffs will make products more expensive. It will however force governments to allow further US exports at more favourable rates.

Not for the benefit of the local population, though.

That's a given (or perhaps a gibbon - whatever).

I met a Chilean ex-pat when visiting Claud a while back. He'd fled Pinochet's reign of terror. A friend of mine is a retired diplomat. He met and shook hands with Pinochet, whom he said was the most unpleasant individual he's ever had to deal with.

It's a case of who suffers the most.

Trump is trying to force businesses to come back to the USA and manufacture domestically.

I noted Nvidia are also building a new semi conductor plant in the USA worth hundreds of billions just announced

In response to having to amidst tariff speculations. Realistically, they may leave a hole abroad. If Nvidia want to export the SC's, then they will face (bigger) export tariffs, no? China is hardly going to give the US tariff concessions are they?
China may become the world's most powerful nation if the US continues it's own internal destruction.
They will have no hesitation in filling any semi-conductor demand and they will subsidise any such production without legislative hindrance So, does the USA win?.
