Meanwhile it occurs to me that it's possible that knocking off red hats, acts of petty vandalism against tainted status symbols, acts of arson against the sellers of such tainted symbols - maybe escalating to physical violence against pro-Trump & Musk supporters - shooting their hats off to take the squirming, maggot-filled crania underneath with them - is exactly what Trump & his cabal of brutes want.

There will be no mid-terms, no 2028 election if they're handed an excuse to declare a state of national emergency. And everything they appear to be planning will definitely happen, only quicker and harder.

It would be 'fun' to go back and quiz all the people who said Trump wouldn't do all the mad stuff he bandied about before the election, now that he's doing all the mad stuff. "Don't panic!" they said. "Everything will be OK!" they said.

What they overlooked that was that Trump's 'team' worked out why he didn't get all the mad stuff done in his first crack of the whip, and spent four years preparing for Project 2025, which is pretty much the blueprint they are following. For their purposes, the crazier he is, the better.

To be fair, Trump was joking when he said he'd like to be a "dictator for one day". The "for one day" was the joke bit.

I don't think the Republicans winning the election is like 1930's Hitler's Germany, no. The idea that in a year the Republicans are going to be shooting African Americans for being black also seems a bit of a stretch.

Anecdotal story. I was on a youth exchange trip to Florida in 1979 and my new friend and his group were going on a coon hunt. I thought it sounded like a fun animal hunt. I was told "It's not for you" and sent back to the house. It wasn't till much later that I realised my ignorance.
That level of hate, and ignorance of it, persists.

I agree. There's a huge element of truth about what you say although the apparent lack of co-ordinated dissent is handwringing.
There are 3 possible outcomes to this:
Totalitarianism
Democratic change (form the mid terms) or
Civil war.
