As China has 90% of the rare earth minerals that the USA need - guess where the majority of the remaining 10 % is... Ukraine and Greenland.

I've not seen the proposed agreement but it's not just a matter of access to the minerals in the ground but processing what is taken from the ground. Currently a lot of material removed from the ground (incl. from the USA) is shipped to China for processing.

Processing is a very polluting, nasty stuff so building your own processing capability is not something many countries would want to start eg US currently goes to the trouble to transport a fair %age of what it takes from the ground over to China.

Maybe the one thing that might make it easier for the US to build its own processing capability is that Trump doesn't seem too concerned about polluting the environment nor for protecting people living in any area.

He’ll want the processing done in Ukraine.

So he said tariffs, and you are convinced he didn't mean tariffs. Understood.
Don't know how many times I have to repeat this but he said that the exporters will be paying and with tariffs exporters don't pay, importers do ... so he wasn't talking about tariffs. Said it several times now. Can't think of a more straightforward way to say it, exporters don't pay tariffs and Trump was talking about them paying so he must have been talking about something else.

Not sure that it really matters, but, perhaps, he got importers and exporters mixed up?

My own theory is that the entire objective is to make him (Trump) look like a tough guy (to his less bright followers). In the case of tariffs is LOOKS like he has most world leaders sucking up to him, and, trying to get a deal, that is the objective, not the quality of the deal (from a USA viewpoint).

If you aren't going to accept he was talking about tariffs when he said he was talking about tariffs, then did what he said he was going to do with tariffs, then there is no way you're going to accept that he signalled what he would do. Even though he did. It's not like he didn't put tariffs on during his first term and describe them the same way.

Who eventually takes the financial hit for tariffs obviously depends on the product, what the margins are for each part of the supply chain etc. But him simplifying it because he's stupid and wants to raise money through it is no surprise.

I have to say it's very generous of you to assume that he knew what he was talking about. He was talking about tariffs. He just doesn't understand tariffs.

So let me see if I'm keeping up.

Yesterday: The Emporer gets his Ukraine minerals deal signed.
Today: The Emporer's lackey signals the end of US support for Ukraine.
Today: The Emporer signals that he expects to allow himself to be worshipped by the British public and their current leaders in September.

The art of the deal: he wins, they lose.

I’m looking forward to the reaction when he visits the UK
