I'm not religious now but from a distant memory it would have to be the Orthodox first since it was the Romans that put him on the cross.

The church split in two when the Roman empire split in two. The Eastern Roman empire became Byzantium, and the official church of Byzantium is what we call the orthodox church. The official church of the Western Roman Empire is what we call the catholic church.

I think the Roman bit that the protestants attach to the name confuses things. That Roman refers to the city, as seat of the pope, not the empire.

From a historical point of view, they and the orthodox were the first.

Yes, my vague understanding was/is that early on, there were various “branches” developed. At one stage, there were even two Popes, I believe.

Who decides which “branch” is the main trunk?

For the avoidance of doubt, it does not matter to me who or what they decide.

Oh, I thought you meant Orthodox Jewish what with Jesus being a Jew and all that.

Former Republican Congressman George Santos sentenced to 7 years in prison.

Some may recall that around 1/2 of Republicans who participated in the expulsion vote wanted the orange rapist's arse licker to remain in Congress.

Santos, an ardent supporter of President Donald Trump, has said that he would not ask the president for a pardon.

"If the president thinks I'm worthy of any level of clemency that is bestowed upon him, he can go ahead and do it, but for me to seek a pardon is to deny accountability and responsibility," Santos told the New York Times.

I think in football parlance that's what they refer to as a come and get me plea.
