Which bit was debateable?
So much hinges on the framing...
That the MAGA are trying to characterise the killer as left wing?
That doesn't mean they're wrong. It seems to me Robinson was indeed listing left by traditional metrics (bearing in mind that I try to avoid the whole left/right thing, as mentioned upthread. All this eagerness to put people into a box.) Meanwhile his motives remain unproven, i.e., debatable.
That they are really working hard to capitalise on the murder?
Another soft fact. Politicians playing politics shocker.
That Trump was more interested in building a ballroom than the murder?
It was a bizarre pivot, but it hardly proves that. Trump loves messing with the press.
That capitol rioters wanted to hang Mike Pence and were not left wing?
While I find it hard to believe in this day and age anyone seriously thought they were going to get a chance to literally hang Pence, I'm not going to deny that the threat of violence was real, though Trump said Pence was safe, and isn't stupid enough to actually think Americans would stand for something as crazy as that. And before anyone says Trump is the epitome of stupid, you don't elected president twice by being an idiot.
I'm hardly condoning MAGA. I just don't like having narratives pushed on me as accepted wisdom. Better to be skeptical, even about things I might agree with. Call it the look carefully before you leap principle.
That's just leftie speak for 'we don't like your viewpoint'. You'll get used to it.
Are there any centrists about? Then again as some poet or another said, the centre cannot hold. We do seem to be living in an apocalyptic time.
Funny thing, they keep bitching about the person/s on ignore.
The 'ignore' function seems to be overheating this evening...
I think even people you seemed destined to always disagree with or who promise to be a waste of time can provide food for thought. That said, I'm also giving it a whirl, clicking "show ignored content" on a case-by-case basis.
Those rejoicing on the cancellation of Kimmel's show, and complain about Nazi Germany comparisons may want to read about
E. O. Plauen.
History doesn't repeat it rhymes, etc. But I can't be the only one who misses the good old days when Godwin's Law got a more regular airing.
The most incredible irony in all of this is that I genuinely believe Charlie Kirk would have been appalled at Kimmel's silencing. I am not saying this to be glib or make a joke, I honestly think he would have absolutely upheld Kimmel's right to speak and would have been angry that his death was being used to polutically weaponise free speech.
As I've said, I don't think he should have been fired. What's gobsmacking to me is that many people online seem more upset at Kimmel losing that platform than Kirk losing his life.
