Democrats are pressing Merrick Garland, the US attorney general, to use his last days in office to release the second volume of the special counsel’s report about Donald Trump’s retention of classified documents.

The demand comes after the justice department this week published the first part of Jack Smith’s report, which looked at the president-elect’s attempts to overturn the results of the 2020 election, including inciting a violent mob to attack the US Capitol on 6 January 2021.

That report concluded that Trump would have faced probable conviction had he not won the 2024 election, after which Smith – who resigned last week – dropped the case against him.

“It is in the public interest for the Department of Justice to expeditiously release the second volume of special counsel Smith’s report so the American people have as full an accounting as possible of Donald Trump’s lawless and criminal conduct,” said Jamie Raskin, the top Democrat on the House of Representatives’ judiciary committee.

Smith (despite resigning) is still pursuing this matter and requesting the files from the DOJ. The DOJ has 3 options - to deny the files exist (a very shaky premise indeed) or release them or block the release. All options are sketchy and if the latter happens, the DOJ will face more allegations of cover ups.
Smith has formerly requested the release of the files from his reports which is a smart move as it puts the DOJ in a catch 22 predicament.

Thanks to a Trump appointed judge Aileen Cannon who;
heel dragged at every possible stage,
was overturned by senior judges, (twice IIRC),
maintained a shadow docket, (this is the court record of filings by defendants and prosecutors). So that it became difficult, if not impossible, for prosecutors to challenge Cannon's decisons to senior judges.

It had been speculated that the orange dictator would promote her to the SC as a reward for him avoiding a successful prosecution for stealing classified documents*, but at least for the time being, that speculation seems to have died down.
* And, (as I understand it), relevant to Jack Smith's recent publicity, she also blocked publication of volume 2. - Volume 1 was approved for release by Judge Tonya Chutkin, who was the presiding judge in the DC election interference case, which the Supreme Court effectively killed.

The Trump regime has withheld $27bn in federal funding to blue states and only $700m to red states.

However, the red states are suffering the most from Trumps policies which are 'eviscerating' red states with many farmers under severe threat of bankruptcies, manufacturing in Iowa and Nebraska is down 6% under rising costs, unemployment is rising. Iowa is highly dependent on immigrant workers and are struggling to produce in the face of a drop in the labour force.
No state has suffered more than Iowa under Trumps policies.
Iowa makes more than 50% of it's electricity from wind power and Trump is stripping away subsidies for electricity production further exacerbating energy costs.
The state that has been hardest hit by Tariffs is Texas. Kentucky are a close second where 75,000* farms are threatened by the tariffs. *That's not a typo.
95% of the Bourbon market, threatened by the tariffs.
Red states will be the hardest hit when it comes to hospital closures where an estimated minimum of 300 will close but possibly 742 are facing closure.
The worst of the closures hit the red state of Kentucky. The DOGE cuts 'devastated' the farming industry in Kentucky.
Rural Maine's lobster industry is collapsing but over the border in Canada, it's thriving. Maine is a 50/50 red-blue state. China and Europe are no longer buying the lobsters from Maine as much. Only 25% are now exported.
Climate change has also affected Maine's harvest figures as sea temperatures have risen, the Lobsters have migrated north into cooler Canadian waters.

The govt, shut down means that $40m in food stamps will disappear this week. That translates to 40 million people on the verge of starvation when the stamps run out as many more Americans are relying on food banks whilst Argentina was given a $40bn bail out.
The govt. say that it is illegal to pay out the food stamps during a govt. shut down when it is constitutionally not so they are lying to protect themselves.
Trump and the Republicans do not like the food stamp program and are effectively saying 'f*ck off'.
Over 40% of those on food stamps are children.
Thousands of furloughed federal workers queue up in Maryland for food.
1m people in the US are currently furloughed because of the shut down.
The majority of people (62%) in the food program (snap) are in work

Health care premiums are set to quadruple (in some cases) due to cuts in Obama care.
Retail prices have skyrocketed since January. Inflation is at a high but no official figures available since the regime has stopped publishing them.

77 US beef farmers go out of business every day and Trump says he's going to buy more beef from Argentina whilst China has stopped buying soya from the US and is now securing contracts with Argentinian farmers.

The US economic situation in the US is not sustainable.
