...though does Andy Burnham come under that category (disruptive candidate) to an extent?
In the kingdom of the blind, the one-eyed man is disruptive.

An interesting piece, on polarisation v. tribalism - specifically about the US, but not without some resonance in the UK.

tl;dr
I was shocked when this was first reported but it's actually predictable given his state of mind. Without diagnosis (I'm not qualified to diagnose and not remotely anyway) it fits the not uncommon aspect to dementia when the worst in people emerges as they deteriorate. Either that or some major psychiatric treatment needed. There is something seriously wrong with a person who responds to such events in such a manner. Can't bring himself to eulogise, or mourn, the passing of one of America's most talented film directors.

I won’t comment on whether he has dementia as this requires a lot more detail than we have, but having read this definition of a narcissistic sociopath it describes him perfectly. There are only two ways to explain that response. He has dementia (or similar), or he simply is an utter, utter daffodil.

Maybe worrying (should be particularly worrying for his family) is that it seems to be getting worse and fast. Either it's a condition that is deteriorating and should be treated (soon) or it's that he feels increasingly powerful and unaccountable so able to behave in such a manner (also rather worrying).I won’t comment on whether he has dementia as this requires a lot more detail than we have, but having read this definition of a narcissistic sociopath it describes him perfectly.
“A narcissistic sociopath (or "narcopath","malignant narcissist") is a term for someone exhibiting traits of both Narcissistic Personality Disorder (NPD) and Antisocial Personality Disorder (ASPD), blending grandiosity, entitlement, and a need for admiration with a profound lack of empathy, manipulation, impulsivity, and disregard for rules or others' rights, often leading to abusive and predatory behavior. They exploit people for personal gain, lack remorse, and can be charming but are driven by a deep-seated emptiness and need for control, making them extremely dangerous”
Compromise: daffodilistic sociopath.
