As I mentioned earlier, there is no logic in the "improved defence" argument as there are already multiple US bases in Greenland and agreements in place that they can be resourced as and when the US pleases. There is no logic in the "minerals" argument as the Greenlanders have been openly offering mining rights etc to US Companies for years. Therefore I conclude that the ambition is that Donnie wants to be seen as one of only a handful of US Presidents who have increased the size of the US . . . no Nobel prize means another ego massaging endeavor must take its place.

What's the 'deal' with the 30-50 million barrels of oil Trump claims he is seizing from Venezuala and will sell at the market rate and then decide who profits?
No company would be willing to operate under those restrictions. Where they have to pay to bring the infrastructure required upto modern standards. Then have one person(puppet) dictating to who they sell it to, much less one who decides who profits from the sale of what they've paid to get/extract.

Be interesting if European companies, and subsidiaries, didn't agree to his master plan. They outnumber the few remaining "US oil companies" in production.

Agreed. I was going to say that I knew that would be cast up. The difference was that China had not acted on their blustering (to my knowledge).
Donnie has now opened that door.
Kind of, but Xi is nothing if not clever, and the buffoon in Washington is trying to do business deals directly on behalf of industries that don't necessarily want them, instead of international diomacy to facilitate them. All this is a huge economic opportunity for China - which is increasingly looking like a more trustworthy and stable industrial partner. We might be wary, but South America, India, Asia will probably prefer working with a country that doesn't dick people around.

In turn I suspect this means not acting like a global pirate like Trump, because the cost to do so isnt worthwhile.

That's an exception because China regards Taiwan as part of China (which historically it was). Certain parallels with Russia and Ukraine.

There's also the nine dash line and all the countries that affects whilst over in the West, they nibble away at various countries' land. The border with India is still disputed too. What they haven't done yet is start a war in Africa over some of their investments.

Which is an extension of my original point.

That is a thoughtful and logical thought process. Donnie isn't logical though.
What happens to that thought process if the US pulls out of NATO? Unthinkable but not impossible.

It was actually a Venezuela tanker, hastily re registered to evade US authorities. It had gone dark , spoofing it location in an attempt to get away. I guess US surveillance is better than their cloaking systems

Except that there's only about 100 miles of asphalt roads and given the length of winter, it's a huge logistical challenge that will take years.

Yeah, they’re not easily accessible ;)

Those 100 miles are around towns, there are no roads connecting anything. So the main means of travel is by air or boat.

There are few runways that can take large planes, Nuuk the capital was upgraded in 2024 so that Airbus can now land. Kangerlussuaq runway which has always been the main base for US military Hercules which service the Military base camp in the interior of the island is degrading due to the permafrost melting. So infrastructure is basic to say the least.
