I don’t think you are entirely wrong. A lot of 50s westerns were shot a few miles from the studios in Hollywood. A place called the Alabama Hills in Lone Pines. Very barren and desert like.

Been there. Awesome. Nice town. Nuff said. There are 14000ft snow capped mountains above those rocks.

The similar shots from Star Trek with Jim Kirk running around after aliens with green lizard heads, or God, I think,.in one of the movies, are actually closer to LA.

My favourite trumpet was made in LA in 1934, since you didn't ask. Probably about the same time that Star Trek was filmed. (Actually, Shatner was three years old then!!)

Drive along there and you pass Lone Pine, Lee Vining, Mono Lake (from High Plains Drifer) Bodie (the best preserved abandoned western town). Turn right and you will be able to visit Oasis, Alkali, Rhyolite, Furnace Creek or Dante's View (from which Moss Isley space port can be seen, and via the sand dunes of Tatooine). Turn left and you will be in Yoemite National Park, or Sequioa National Park.

It's remarkable really going from the wild west to outser space and the wilderness within a few hours' drive.

I wonder why it could be that Trump can't take in that Norway doesn't itself award the Nobel Peace Prize, despite having been told that by the Norwegian PM several times, and despite being able to recognise a giraffe on a dementia test.

Almost inexplicable.

This is the chickens of giving the prize to Obama just for not being Bush coming home to roost.

Most politicians put their best face forward and are exposed when it is discovered they have a seamier side. Trump is apparently hiding the fact that he is not the monster he likes to present in public. I noticed something of this curious double standard when watching the videos of some of Trump's podcast appearances during the campaign. Often the filming started before the official recording got underway and Trump could be seen chatting with his hosts more or less like a regular human being - he was engaging and even somewhat self-aware. Then the official conversation started and a light went off behind his eyes as the trash talk began.

He's not wrong.
"The post comes after a long message on Saturday, when Trump said it was "time for Denmark to give back" now that "World Peace is at stake"."

Where that threat comes from would have been a surprise a few years ago.
