They are in a right mess (which is just where Trump would like them to be). I still wonder how much Gibb & Davie are 'suggesting' the tone of reporting, either out of cowardice, or because of sympathies.

There has been quite a noticeable swing, maybe too ‘woke‘ or left for some for a few years, but definitely the swing has gone too far the other way in the last couple of years.

The jan 6 podcast I listened to last week seemed to give equal credence the WH re-writing of events with what was reported and on our screens at the time. It was quite sickening.

BTW the Jan 6th page on the official WH website is nuts.

Trouble is Trump is only unique and different because he is POTUS.

I was thinking about this the other day from my working experience I have worked under a few people with similar characteristics, who throw their weight around, bullying and abuse whatever power they have, and I would imagine if their influence was scaled up in this way, they would be a ‘Trump’.

They are 10 a penny.

I suppose the Mad King Donald thing keeps Epstein away from the headlines. Though I think he needs to tone it down now.

Yet it wasn't that long ago when the US was attacked and unable to defend itself invoked NATO Article 5 and other NATO countries responded and many non-US forces died and were seriously injured defending the US.

Only time NATO Article 5 ever used and it was the US using it 'cos it couldn't defend itself and needed NATO.

Trũmp's continual insults to other NATO countries is getting very insulting, particularly to those non-US who lost family members or who have to deal with disability and from defending the US.

All these reporters at Davos reporting how those attending are holding their breath waiting to hear what Trùmp will say. Are they really so daft that they can't guess? I think his speech is beyond predictable yet these politicians & top business people are being reported as wondering about what Trũmp is going to say!

"Trump speech on another level - with lack of self-awareness remarkable
By Mark Stone, US correspondent, Sky News
I have watched countless speeches and news conferences from President Trump.
This one stands alone. It is an extraordinary inconsistent ramble. Even by his standards (and he's proud of his ability to "weave" between subjects) this is on another level.
The right wing US news networks stuck with it, but others moved on, skipping the monologue, dipping back only for the questions.
Former president Joe Biden often got lost in his own ramblings. It was why he was kept away from the podium by his team. Even so, his mental acuity was his downfall.
Lost in the ramble
Yet there are no such guardrails for President Trump. His unquestionable accessibility also exposes him.
And I'd argue that his ramblings - today more than any day - are on a different level from what we saw with Biden.
The numerous conservative policy achievements - job numbers up, immigration down, crime down - are lost behind the ramble.
At one point he wondered aloud why his achievements, as he sees them, aren't resonating with the American people.
"Maybe we have bad public relations people?" he mused, with his press secretary Karoline Leavitt sitting a metre from him.
For a man so obsessed with his image, his lack of self awareness can be remarkable.
Even his supporters - at the grassroots, and in congress - are worried: why obsess over Greenland and Venezuela? That's not what they understood by 'America First'.
He'll need to join the dots as the midterms approach.
"We did well with Venezuela and by the way that's going to help us bring down the oil prices…" he said towards the end of the briefing.
That's how he'll explain his foreign policy in the context of everyday Americans' lives.
It also explains, bluntly, what Trump's America is all about.
'America first' is perhaps less 'America before everyone else' and more 'America - and to hell with everyone else'."

I'd hazard it's going to be yet another rambling, word salad mainlky consisting of Me, Me, Me!

German Professor on President Trump:
Trump has been President for a year now and has achieved:
-4.3% GDP growth
-the oil price is 20% lower than a year ago
-unemployment below 4.5%
-the American stock markets have risen by about 20% during this period
-inflation is at 2.7%
-the trade deficit is the lowest in 17 years
-the crime rate has declined significantly
-illegal migration has dropped by 95%
Here in Europe, we get indignant, demonize or sabotage him wherever we can. But Trump isn't Germany's Chancellor—why should he do anything positive for us? We could, however, learn from it and actually tackle our own problems.
Trump isn't alone in this. But what I see: His team works with tremendous efficiency.
In German politics, by contrast, success is unwelcome. It is rendered impossible by a multitude of agreements, separation of powers, and regulations. The Bundestag is the best example of that.
