As has been pointed out in various places, whatever his degree of saintliness, it wouldn't change the verifiable evidence that he hadn't threatened the ICE goons with his gun, and that the holstered gun had been removed before he was shot in the back 10+ times while already restrained, which would have been illegal even if he'd been a violent criminal being apprehended.

But it does feel like when we're arguing this stuff we've already enticed into MAGA territory of arguing with shameless liars and almost on their terms. The lying is half the point, not just the initial lawlessness.

Don't get me wrong, it is utterly tragic. But it's just as illegal no matter who the victim of the thuggery is. Once we start trying to nuance how illegal it is depending on the victim, it's a slippery slope.
