Hilbert’ s response to a question of Bernhard Rust, the Nazi Reich Minister for Science, Education, and Popular Culture, was typical. At a banquet in 1934 in Göttingen, Rust asked: “Is it really true, Mr. Professor, that your institute suffered so much from the departure of the Jews and their friends?” to which Hilbert replied, in his characteristic East Prussian dialect: “Suffered? No, it hasn’t suffered, Mr. Minister. It simply doesn’t exist anymore!”

This is a true story reported by different people. Göttingen, and Germany in general, had become the most important research centre for mathematics and theoretical physics in the world. The nazi obsession against relativity and quantum mechanics destroyed that completely. Sound familiar?

No, it's not an urban myth.
If RFK has concerns about vaccines he should do what most governments do and put together a commission of independent experts to review the research. Medical research isn't infallible, and not all research is of equal status or quality, but we've had decades of vaccination programmes, in the West anyway, and it would be a fairly straightforward thing to review their effectiveness vs harms.

It's hard to grasp why a man who pushes for laws on the safe limits on the additives in food is so against vaccinations. I can only think it's the very American thing on personal choice being paramount and overruling the common good, as with guns.
