Most people don't care what the words mean, few know past the first line, I've just had enough of people trying to change stuff I see as my heritage.
When did all this start I wonder?
When you got old perhaps?

Change is occurring all the time, arguably faster than ever before, do you not think it is right that we tone back or subtly replace words and meanings that are racist (not in this case but in many others), imperialistic and antagonistic? If you don't know the words and don't care what they mean what is the problem with editing them?

For someone so happy to criticise others language errors, you really should try to avoid such sloppiness. Your, yaw, you're, yawn.
Others in this sentence is possessive so should have an apostrophe.

You really should try to avoid such sloppiness.

Fifteen all, your serve.

I need genuine help here, I am a child of the late 70s and early 80s so grammar passed me by. I read it as 'others' as in plural which would have the apostrophe after the 's', so others'. To be fair, I would have chickened out an gone with 'For someone so happy to criticise language errors'.

So without a huge thread derail, although perhaps that could be a good idea - can someone educate an idiot please?

“It depends on the context. I've put three examples here for you.
"Others may join us." This refers to other people.
"Others' belongings have been lost." This is a possessive apostrophe that applies to more than one person.
"We finish each other's sentences." Here, it's possessive but refers to a single person.
Hope this helped!”

Thank you very much, by the way my poor grammar/punctuation admission was not an invite to pile in, but feel free to educate me along the way, I am well aware I am egregious with my punctuation, I never worked out semi colons (joining sentences I believe) and I throw these around like confetti ( ) - .

Sorry for continuing the divert, I guess we all go back to the topic at hand or shoot-stirring if preferred.

We've established Cry Macho's whingeing, joyless truculence works to kill threads without number; even an entire sub-forum.
It's edge of seat stuff to see whether it'll work to crash a whole site.

He's definitely doing his best.

@Pale Rider is correct on this point. This is not something I've ever felt I had to say before. It should have been others'.

As for the twat tennis, I concede before a true master.

I am happy I was correct in my understanding of minor grammar and punctuation, so you have given two of us a slight swagger in our steps' and have allowed us to get slightly closer to winning the internet.

@Pale Rider is correct on this point.

However, the possessive others is increasingly seen as fussy, and whether out of ignorance or choice, has largely fallen into disuse.

It is a living language, usage evolves, so there is an argument for saying it's not worth worrying about and no apostrophe may become accepted usage..

As regards twat tennis, as with any type of tennis, it's not possible to play solo, and there are plenty of serves and returns of serve being made on this thread.
