Things always need looking at to see if they need changing. Especially songs harking back to the days when we rooled the wurld. Even old blokes like me can see that the world changes, sometimes even for the better.

I enjoyed comedy programmes in the 70s, except those with Bernard Manning and Jim Davidson, who were always racist tossers appealing to a very base audience. Dave Allen was always brilliant and I still enjoy some shows, especially Dad's Army.

Exactly..

I know people even older than yourself..!!

Yes unbeeeleeevable I know, who are still up for reconsidering their position, and how things might need to change, or be adapted to improve matters .

And some proper stuffy, sub thirty year olds, who are already sucking at the teat of nostalgia...

I think it's a personality and background / life experience thing as much as anything else.

Fixed mindset, versus learning mindset.

I find something vaguely amusing that the suitability of other countries' anthems also comes into question. The French national anthem, la Marseillaise, is also embroiled in arguments about the lyrics. There are many who do not think lines about using the impure blood of foreigners to water their fields are suitable for the present day in what is the 5th Republic.

(Aux armes, citoyens
Formez vos bataillons
Marchons, marchons!
Qu’un sang impur
Abreuve nos sillons!)

It's curious that our own defender of dated lyrics appears so solidly aligned with the French Republican Right. How very un-British!

Can I add "tag team" to the meaningless phrases like "buddies" and "usual suspects" to describe when more than one person disagrees with you?

Or can I add you to PR's tag team?

Irony Is still a difficult concept for some.
Absolutely, add who you like to whoever.

When you got old perhaps?

Change is occurring all the time, arguably faster than ever before, do you not think it is right that we tone back or subtly replace words and meanings that are racist (not in this case but in many others), imperialistic and antagonistic? If you don't know the words and don't care what they mean what is the problem with editing them?
Why does everything have to change though, progress is good (and bad) kids not going round their mates house and playing in the street is bad in my opinion, they just sit in their rooms playing video games or going on the internet. Other things are good, I like to pick and choose.

We all like to pick and choose .

But if we think things need to change we're allowed to say so, and why.

And campaign for it to change if we want it to.
That's democracy in action.

Things staying the same 'just because'

makes no more sense than them changing
'just because'

People often used to moan about 'packs of feral kids, roaming the streets, out of control'

They're probs the same sorts who nowadays moan about them staying in their rooms playing games with each other online.

There's always been lots of moaning, about 'the youth of today' but often from the same sorts who don't want to make space , or allowances, or provision for kids to do 'kid' stuff.

We know how it works: threads the Mule doesn't like being derailed into endless exhibitions of the Mule's sensitivities.
What's your favourite colour, Eeyore?

(OK, so strictly speaking Eeyore was a donkey. Ed.)

The ball seems to have gone missing again? ;)

If we don’t change we are doomed to live in caves for the rest of our lives, some changes will be wonderful and some terrible, the market/evolution will decide.
