Is this the missing 4% of growth that would have propelled the UK to vastly outperform all its peers?

Who knows?

From the Sunday Times, reporting on a speech Bailey gave in Washington:

Andrew Bailey has warned that the economic impacts of Brexit will be negative “for the foreseeable future” in the strongest intervention yet by the governor of the Bank of England on the consequences of Britain’s exit from the EU.

He said that he was careful not to give a personal view on Brexit, and that it was his job as a public official to implement the decision “taken by the people of the UK”.

“But if you ask me what the impact is on economic growth, I do have to answer that question as a public official,” he said. “And the answer is that, for the foreseeable future, it is negative but over the longer time there should be a positive, albeit partial, counterbalance.”

Jesus that's awful, no wonder we left.

It's misinformation. Check everything. Trust no one.

For example ...

BRUSSELS — The European Union is setting its sights on finally sealing a major trade agreement with the Latin American Mercosur bloc before Christmas, with Commission President Ursula von der Leyen looking at flying to Brazil for a formal signing ceremony on Dec. 20.
But first, she needs to get a supermajority of the EU’s 27 member nations to sign off on the long-awaited deal, which would create a free-trade area covering 800 million people.

And a more legally technical description from the EU ...

Unlike EU-only agreements, mixed agreements not only require Council ratification and European Parliament consent but also ratification by the EU Member States in accordance with their constitutional requirements. The Council adopts its decisions to sign (under Article 218(5) TFEU) and – after the European Parliament has given its consent – concludes (under Article 218(6)) the agreement and, if necessary, agrees on its provisional application. It does so by qualified majority, with Article 218(8) providing a number of exceptions when unanimity is required, including for association agreements.

Even if that was a reliable source, who gives a t0ss as no major party is proposing rejoining. It's just the never ending wishful thinking of unreconciled remainers. Although rejoiners is probably a more accurate term now.

More misinformation Steevo. Don't you check anything?

The Green Party holds the ambition to rejoin the EU. The Green Party is now a major party. It has more actual members than every party except for Labour. The Greens, Blues, Reds, and Oranges are jostling for second place on more or less equal polling.

That is exactly my point - you don't give a toss about truth - you think biased opinion cemented by misinformation is reasonable argument. It isn't.

Why would the UK have so massively outperformed every other country in Europe?

You'll have to argue with the paper rather than me - their credentials are more impressive than mine, despite my extensive participation in the CS thread.

But this graph might help to explain - it looks like we haven't even kept up with the average (if I'm reading it correctly), let alone the better ones.
