Is there a connection between voting Conservative, and voting "leave"?
Sunderland voted "leave" quite emphatically. There are not many Conservative voters in Sunderland.
Usually, but not always. It also seems to have been popular in more working class areas as an anti-establishment protest. It may have been that those areas were more likely to swallow snake oil from the likes of Johnson and Farage but there is a plethora of articles and thought pieces about why this might have been the case.

Generally speaking, people in areas with higher affluence voted Remain, unless they were staunchly right wing. London, Scotland, Wales and NI all voted Remain.

As with Trumpism, it was a mixture of the wealthy right-wingers who knew what they were voting for, and the poor who were voting for anything better than what they had.

Who's celebrating coming up to the 10th anniversary of the Brexit Referendum?

Farage? Johnson?? Anyone???

I don't think Jonathan Freedland is a fan.

https://www.theguardian.com/comment...n-lies-disinformation-brexit-bus-economy-vote

The currency of Cummings, Farage and the rest was fear and loathing. We see again Farage’s “breaking point” poster, with its brown-skinned men apparently massing on our borders, and the wholly bogus Vote Leave ad suggesting that 76 million Turks would soon be able to come into Britain via the EU, leaving a trail of dirty footprints behind them. These were racist and xenophobic messages, barely veiled – and they worked.

So it’s hardly a surprise that, a decade later, we have the man who could well be in Downing Street after the next election – and who, tellingly, speaks of Brexit only rarely these days – complaining of “anti-white prejudice” and calling for “pure cold rage” after the murder of a young white man, even as that man’s parents pleaded for his death not to be used to turn Britons against each other. Restore Britain, a party that is endorsed by unabashed white supremacists and neo-Nazis, is on the ballot in Makerfield and might win 10% of the vote. There has always been a far right in Britain, but it used to be confined to the fringes. Brexit invited it in.

By dividing us down the middle, leave or remain, Brexit polarised our politics in a new, starker way. Looking back, it’s clear that remain could never win a contest like that because it was never really about British membership of the EU. In effect, the question became: “Do you want things to remain as they are, or would you like to leave the current reality of your life for something better?” In that contest, there was only ever going to be one winner.

Quarter of UK musicians have lost all EU work since 2021, report finds
More than a quarter of British musicians have lost all their work in the European Union since 2021, according to new research.

The report by European Movement UK, a cross-party campaign group advocating closer UK-EU relations, found that nearly half of British musicians had experienced a reduced amount of work in the EU since 2021, while more than a quarter had stopped working there altogether.

Average tour earnings had fallen by 45%, with 59% of musicians saying touring in Europe was no longer viable.
When these reports keep coming I'm continually reminded of Roger Daltry who campaigned for UK to leave the EU then after he got his wishes discovered what that meant and started campaigning for special exemptions from the impacts for the sector he works in.
eg
Brexiter Roger Daltrey criticises restrictions for musicians touring Europe
Accused of hypocrisy after signing an open letter decrying the government’s position on musicians touring the EU post-Brexit despite previously endorsing Brexit, the Who’s Roger Daltrey has clarified his anti-Brussels stance, but argues the government should have prioritised the “easing of restrictions” for musicians and actors.

Exclusive: Survey reveals 58% of farmers back EU exit
An overwhelming majority of farmers are in favour of the UK leaving the European Union – and intend to vote that way on 23 June – according to new research by Farmers Weekly.

In an exclusive poll, we asked our readers exactly how they planned to vote in the upcoming referendum. Of 577 farmers who completed the survey, 58% said they wanted to leave, while just 31% said they wanted the UK to remain in the trade bloc.

There's something special here about the language Dunt uses in his post about the Pope. And you won't be confused why I've put this here... not sure I'd quite phrase it like that, but...
