Here's am opportunity for us remoaners - write to your MP:

We've been out of the Eu for 6 years now, that's easily enough time for metrics to prove it's been bad for not just the economy, but for quality of life. Not even touching on the immigrant situation.
Problem is, the type of people who in the main voted leave aren't happy unless they're punching down on someone.
Anyway, I have written to my MP.

This, from Ian Dunt, follows on from the thing about the Telegraph *not* going apeshit about Burnham breaking the Brexit omerta, and why I think it was a mistake of the Tories not to change the conversation earlier once the realisation that Brexit was never going to fix all the shit that was erroneously being pinned on the EU. Starmer was equally guilty as the Tories, but given the Tories' dire polling and the difficulty of differentiating themselves from Reform, it seemed like a door worth pushing. But they were to welded to Johnson's fiction and misadventure. They've lost that possible initiative now, and handed the narrative back to Labour.

Burnham's been canny (I think) in not predetermining the outcome of the discussion. Rather, I think, he has a hopeful hunch which way it might go.

I think this is the thing... no-one's been prepared to make the argument, either on the triple lock, or Brexit. All of a sudden, done right, the triple lock bomb has been defused (at least for now) by the way the change was framed.

Incidentally, Jessica Elgot in the Graun said that Burham was still revising his speech after his morning jog (which suggests he wouldn't have run parts of it via any polls or focus groups), and that about a quarter of it was not scripted, which (if true) suggests he has a confidence to deliver an argument spontaneously which was *entirely* missing from Starmer.

Totally disagree. There'd have been at least 48% support, plus whoever was already figuring out that they'd voted for the stupid side.

Your perception is because the stupid side was also the shoutiest side.

May's approach is more or less that the economists have said all along. Highlighted that Brexit was pointless all along as well. And is more or less the direction of travel Burnham is now on.

Bringing this over from the Burnham thread...

The trouble was that at the time May realised it was an impossible brief, a circle with corners, and even the Maybot couldn't find a way to make it work, once Cameron had walked away from his stinking pile of poo. Johnson squared the circle by lying from day one.

How could we do that, pray, Ms Lettuce? Anything you might suggest??

She means more racist and xenophobic. The far right has moved from hating Poles for being over here to loving them for their islamophobia and anti-immigrant rhetoric.

What are the chances that gemini's answer is based on posts such as the ones I queried? Do you have a real life bona fide primary school child at hand to ask?

The closest I have at home is our 15 year old, he says the expression "brexit tackle" describes a violent careless tackle, not quite the connotation in the original messages.
