Inthink the answer is yes, because of the EU policy regarding country of first arrival in the EU. Whether that policy was ever fair to countries on the Med is a different question.

Imo, this is the main reason that we are where we are. If there are no legal routes then people will take illegal routes.

I'm not sure which bit you are referencing, but I think suggesting the Dublin agreement helped the UK return refugees is probably on a par with the £350m bus claim for truthfulness.

Honestly hadn't had my misunderstanding challenged enough to break through my confirmation bias, so now I'm better educated, thank you. As you'll see from that Yorkshire Bylines article, I'm not the only one, as that was in response to a detailed article putting the opposing view.
