It's like realising you can't walk like the average person because you amputated the lower left leg needlessly, and deciding the solution is to amputate the lower right leg too.

Tis only a scratch!

Speaking of Cake Stop, I used to say this all the time on there, we have become a society on the whole, that can't take responsibility for our actions/decisions anymore. People seem terrified of actually saying, "do you know what, I was wrong on that".

Yeah, but they are slightly different unicorns, so they are bound to fix the problems.

Seriously, we're up shït creek because people can't accept they've made shït choices, and their only way of not admitting it is to make even shïtter choices. It's like realising you can't walk like the average person because you amputated the lower left leg needlessly, and deciding the solution is to amputate the lower right leg too. (I know this analogy will be particularly appreciated by Cake Stop veterans.)

Careful now. Eeyore. ;)

A note to the Telegraph

1) The UK made the choice to leave (I think the Telegraph celebrated this fact)
2) The UK is in the same boat as everyone else not in the EU. They aren't picking on us because we're British.

When Trump introduced knee-jerk steel tariffs, it was considered an outrage by many. The act of an orange buffoon.

When the EU follows...

The UK may have a case taking this to arbitration, but I assume Starmer will try to negotiate higher quotas.

Note the tariff only applies to steel in excess of the quota.

As I understood things, in addition to quota point, the EU isn't applying a tariff arbitrarily to different countries, which contravenes WTO rules.

The US applied its original steel tariffs to all countries. The EU moaned a lot. At that point, as you say, it was in line with WTO rules. However, the EU is also reducing the quota under the TCA, so it needs to be compliant with that agreement too.

So on brief reading, that's not being breached, but places the UK in direct competition with cheaper steel outside of the EU/UK plus whatever tariffs that attracts below that threshold. sound fairly bleak and the only response will be our own tariffs, which will simply put up prices for infrastructure projects, construction etc.
