Former Labour MP arrested on suspicion of child grooming offence

Ivor Caplin, former Labour MP for Hove, and a former junior defence minister was arrested yesterday after a group of paedophile hunters nabbed him in one of their sting operations.

Caplin was suspended from the party in May last year for an as yet undisclosed reason.

Oddly, this news is all over general media but not a peep on the BBC at the time of posting.

Ha! I just found it, buried in a local page for Sussex. They refer to Caplin only as an unnanmed local man. 😂

A man has been arrested in Brighton on suspicion of a child sex offence.​

Sussex Police confirmed to the BBC that a 66-year-old local man had been arrested on Saturday and currently remains in custody.​

​

"We are aware of footage circulating on social media showing a man in Brighton being detained on suspicion of engaging in online sexual communications with a child," said the force. ​

"This is an ongoing and active investigation," a Sussex Police spokesperson said.​

I think that can depend on the identity and/or the politics of the person concerned.

I don't know if it's still up but his X account is full of porn and attempts at hook ups. It's suggested it may have been hacked or simply that he didn't understand privacy settings or that people can see your replies. I won't link it cos it's def 18 plus stuff but still there AFAIK. Followed by lots of Labour big wigs.

He was on tv the other day slagging off Elon Musk over the grooming scandal.

As he was actually arrested it's odd that the BBC thought a minor celebrity going to rehab and another getting speeding ticket were Top Stories but this didn't merit a mention.

But how often do people cull their social media follow lists? 5 years ago, amidst Corbyn's terrible mishandling of Labour's antisemitism crisis, Caplin would have been a go-to source.

Equally, but less likely, interest may have been piqued by Caplin's suspension from the Labour party 7 months ago
