Gender again. Sorry!

Lady Hale's daughter is a trans activist who thinks that there aren't enough men counting as women on company boards. Lady Hale wonders why everywhere can't be mixed sex like the lovely toilets at her posh literary festival. Which also had single sex ones btw.

She and her daughter will never find themselves sharing a prison or domestic violence refuge with a male, sitting next to one in a rape support meeting, or changing next to a man at a council leisure centre.

The luxury beliefs of wo women, drowning in privilege, lamenting the plight of men, and pleading for some sensible middle ground that was rejected by trans activists years ago. She might as well have said 'Let them eat cake'.

Edit: Let's not forget that Lady Hale argued in the House of Lords in 2004 that a trans identifying male would-be police officer should be allowed to strip search women because he had made the effort to look feminine.

This policy was enacted by some forces but fortunately The National Police Chiefs’ Council (NPCC) guidance this week does away with that.

What's the difference between 'sex' and 'gender'. Or are they two words for the same thing?

There's a whole thesis around that.

In the noughties they came to be used almost interchangeably in, for example, government forms. As a serving civil servant at the time I don't remember any formal instruction but it was a definite direction of travel.

In the vast majority of cases, for example attendees at a conference of lawyers, it made no difference.

There may have been instances in say a health care context, where it makes a difference.

I'd no idea Brenda Hale even had a daughter.

If she is what you people call a transcativist what relevance has that to the Baroness's views?

I agree that self ID in prisons needs very careful handling and that men in the female estate should be segregated, as I believe they are.

Ditto rape centres though you need to remember that trans people are just as, nay more, vulnerable to rape or other penetrative assault as cis women.

Toilets are another matter. The government should replace the previous mobs appointment in the EHRC pronto. Not just becuase she's, putting it kindly, misguided but as the exodus from the organisation of people who understand equality issues show an absolute sod to work with.

Lady Hale's daughter is a woman with her own opinions. Are you against women having their own opinions? It's just that you are sounding like the voice of the patriarchy.

Yeah. But...

It's relevant because time and time again people are influenced by their own limited experience which blinds them to the wider issues.

I agree that self ID in prisons needs very careful handling and that men in the female estate should be segregated, as I believe they are.
No they aren't. Triple stabber Lauren Jeska remains in Derby Foston Hall women's prison. Murderer Alex Stewart is in a Scottish women's jail. If vulnerable, they should be in specialist provision not women's jails.

Ditto rape centres though you need to remember that trans people are just as, nay more, vulnerable to rape or other penetrative assault as cis women.

No man should be in a women's rape crisis service, as a client or a counsellor, whether they are separated or not. They should be directed to specialist provision.

A nice example of phallic drift there. Nobody is more vulnerable than the men who think they aren't men. Nobody.

How did you arrive at your extraordinary trans exclusive opinions without knowing the difference?

I do know the difference. Do you? Maybe you could answer the question, since Brommie seems not to know.

If you know the difference, you don't need to repeatedly ask the same question.

Actually I haven't seen you post anything to show that you do know. What I see is you giving male perspectives of what a woman is through the lens of stereotypes and what a woman might mean to a man.

I happen to trust Bromptonaut's intelligence and sensibilities much more than I trust your own. If I was looking for a male perspective, I'd be so much happier looking to him.

Awww!!

Sex is biological; the vast majority of us clearly have, at birth, either male or female plumbing.

Gender is usually the same thing as sex; gender congruent. For some people it's not. Born with male plumbing but their minds say that's not right and they should have been female; gender incongruent.

I believe that for practical purposes you can change your sex, ie how you look and present via hormones and/or surgery.

Aurora Saab does not. I respect their right to hold that view but not to impose it on the rest of us.

What has her daughter got to do with Hale's opinions?

Are those the only criteria for judging who is allowed an opinion? Do you qualify on those grounds?
