She wanted suffrage for women but not for men.

She wanted eugenics to eliminate feeble-minded women so we could have a nation of 'strong women'. This programme would also be used to increase the number of men to about four times the number of women (but the men wouldn't have the right to vote).

This would produce a stable population suitable for her needs. Every woman could then have two subjugated men to carry them around in gilt sedan chairs complete with a bar and toileting facilities - air con would have to wait until strong women invented it. This would still leave enough men for the necessary canon fodder to ensure her nationalistic policies were successful.

Of course AS will denounce this on the somewhat spurious grounds that I'm making shoot up.

She didn't promote universal suffrage btw. She campaigned for equal voting rights for women, which wasn't the same.

Interpretation: She didn't intend to do anything for men, but they benefitted anyway by way of unintended outcome. She didn't want equality, equity or parity of treatment with men, but something else. What shall we call it?

There was no point in the suffragettes campaigning for universal voting rights before getting women the vote. It wasn't an achievable aim.

Women are allowed to organise and lobby in their own interests without having to think about what men would also like.

Am I being grouped in 'you lads'? I never met the woman. Quite possibly wouldn't have liked her, a bit right wing for me.
But it's history, best not to try to shoehorn historical characters into a good person/bad person dichotomy.

In 1903, Pankhurst founded the Women's Social and Political Union (WSPU), an all-women suffrage advocacy organisation dedicated to "deeds, not words".[6] The group identified as independent from – and often in opposition to – political parties. It became known for physical confrontations: its members smashed windows and assaulted police officers.
