Unfortunately, Canada is supporting the US on this one. Don't know why, yet.
Hmmm. Seems to be lukewarm support, at best. Reads mostly as mere words to placate Donnie.

An excellent statement-by-statement debunking by BBC Verify of the US claims about the reasons for the Iran offensive (sorry, I can't find the video on the Verify page)

Campbell really has no shame.
They seem to be blowing both ways. Apparent support over the weekend, then calling the war illegal during a visit to Australia, sounds like unable to take a principled stance. Hats off to Sánchez on sticking to his principles.

It helps that the only way to apply financial "sanctions" (let's stop calling them tariffs) against Spain would include the whole EU. As per my follow up post. Some words to placate Donnie while actually condemning the actions.
Pass - there are some concerning reports that it's turning into Trump's Holy War.I wonder if this will turn into Trump's Vietnam.
The Military Religious Freedom Foundation (MRFF) says it has received more than 200 complaints from service members across all branches of the armed forces, including the marines, air force and space force.
One complainant, identified as a noncommissioned officer (NCO) in a unit that could be deployed “at any moment to join” operations against Iran, told MRFF in a complaint viewed by the Guardian that their commander had “urged us to tell our troops that this was ‘all part of God’s divine plan’ and he specifically referenced numerous citations out of the Book of Revelation referring to Armageddon and the imminent return of Jesus Christ”.
I wonder if this will turn into Trump's Vietnam.
The US has a dismal history of meddling in the middle east (most recently Iraq which now appears to be a lawless wasteland and Afghanistan which was back being run by the Taliban ten minutes after the US left); and their position is arguably far worse now:
- Zero legitimate justification
- No clear goals or plan of action
- Very little public support domestically
- Very little support internationally / fewer allies
- A larger, stronger, more prepared enemy
- Arrogant, delusional and incompetent "leadership"
I'm reading rumblings that the current use of munitions by the US and their allies is both materially and financially unsustainable, suggesting that Iran will just attempt to keep chipping away with much cheaper drones in a war of attrition.
It seems that for decades Israel has been whispering in the ear of US presidents in an attempt to get them to do their dirty work for them, and mostly they've resisted. Trump appears to be the only one stupid / arrogant / blackmailable enought to fall for it.
The US seem to have bowled into this with the assumption that it will be an easy win and their actions risk little. In reality I think this is likely to become a very protracted, costly (in all senses of the word) war and will ultimately act to the detriment of the US and its orange dictator. Another nail in the coffin of the country, as its grip slips further on global hegemony.
I sincerely hope the rest of the world just lets them get on with it and US citizens finally start seeing some real-world repercussions for their unfathomable stupidity in inviting this narcissistic charlatan back for a second term.
