Aha, here's the expert I referenced yesterday who said that without boots on the ground, *no* aerial bombardment has ever worked, and the inevitability of escalation. "The the 100% tactical success [of the initial strike] .... creates the illusion of the control of escalation"... what he calls the 'smart bomb trap', and notes that the bombs 'fuse' the regime and population against the people dropping the bombs.

I think this is Trump starting to realise that actions have consequences that you can't control... you can smell the panic. I have a suspicion that he's bungling this one so bigly that his polling is going to plummet even more, and he's going to be left with a stark choice between taking the Republican Party down with him in the midterms, or he'll take them down by attempting to cancel them.

I gather that domestic support for the war is already lower than it was for the Vietnam War at the end of the war.

Indeed, but this one really does reek of "Fuck, fuck, fuck, the price of gas is going to go through the roof, what the fuck can we do?!?" panic, and coming up with some cockamamie scheme to try to persuade tankers to run the gauntlet to keep gas prices down.

It is breathtaking. It's like he didn't notice the slide of the PowerPoint presentation that said Iran is quite big and has the population of the eastern seaboard and the entire economy has been weapons and terrorism based for 40 years.

It's only 3 bullet points Donald.

Maybe he's confusing it with Iranland, where they brew Guinness.

Missiles being fired is dwindling rapidly around 90 were being fired in waves. After a few days less than 20 are being fired at any one time. The missile launchers are detected and destroyed.

I assumed DB was referring to regime changes that were not instigated from within the state.

He said

As every historian will tell you, there has never been regime change without boots on the ground. EVER.

No mention of except those that did not require boots on the ground

Quite frankly it was an inaccurate and hyperbolic claim that is demonstrably untrue, just looking at Iran alone, let alone the many other countries that have had regime change without boots on the ground
