I considered working in security services, but decided I'd rather be in the pub than standing on the door.

*Sorry, couldn't resist
If it is any consolation it is very modestly.paid.and extremely.difficuly.to get in.

Cyprus are looking to renegotiate the presence of UK airbases on the island.
They don’t want to be a target in future wars.
I cant see Trump being very happy about any changes.

Unintended consequences... It has been said the the "special relationship" meant (extended) Britain was no more the a stationary aircraft carrier. Well, Cyprus is pissed at being dragged into a war it wants nothing to do with.

"We can now bring you more from the statement issued by the European Council regarding the conflict in the Middle East.
The European Union "stands firmly and unequivocally in support of member states close to the region", it says.
The council adds that it also "acknowledges the intention of Cyprus to initiate a discussion with the UK on the UK bases in Cyprus, and stands ready to provide assistance as needed"."

RAF Akrotiri is on UK territory as its still a colonial outpost or a British Overseas Territory. It does get a bit more complicated than simply negotiating the bases, its more a question of sovereignty. But apparently the European Council is ready to step in to help Cyprus negotiate with the UK after the Iran debacle. I think this will cause a political storm here and i cant imagine Starmer wanting to handle this hot potato.
