I think it's not as black and white as Trūmp thinks or as blocked or unblocked.

It is open so some vessels (eg the alledged Iranian "shadow tanker fleet"). Some Chinese and Indian vessels are getting through. Some are apparently paying the tolls and being allowed through. I assume it's these that Trũmp is now going to stop ie to stop Iran financially benefitting from what little is getting through.

It's a dangerous game - What happens if China decide they want Iranian oil and send their escorts in to chaperone their tankers though the Gulf defying Trumps blockade?

So much whatabouterry and attempts to change the subject, but not a single one condemns the judicial killing by Iran

That is very telling

Says the guy who’s posting MO relies entirely on whataboutery to obfuscate.

But then when US industry starts needing some of the non-oil products that ship through the Strait eg paraxylene, ammonia (for agricultural fertiliser, etc. will US industry start lobbying the US Government to allow through these resources they depend on? And then US allies in the gulf who are very dependent on imports of food and animal feed, etc. Opinions can shift quickly when it is an ally who is blocking your critical imports rather than a country currently bombing you.

Worse than that. The Strait was freely open to all 6 weeks ago.
What happened for it to close? Rhetorical question.

Sure. But even if everything that account says is true, they're missing the problem

China buys a small % of its oil from Iran and has several months of storage. They prepared for this a long time ago (naval blockade of the other strait: Malacca).

US intelligence is now saying the Chinese have been providing missiles to Iran and there are murmurings they could deliver the anti-ship missiles agreed prior to this war.

China has 400 bn investment in Iran and isn’t going to throw it away easily. The Iranians are all set up for a war of attrition. The Yanks won’t like paying more to fill their gas guzzlers and Trump will have to concede at some point.
