This gets mentioned often enough I thought it was worth a thread. Feel free to ignore it.

Maybe you've decided they're a troll. Maybe you don't like their politics; or even a single position they took was enough to repel you. Maybe they just really really annoy you. For whatever reason, you're tired of all interaction with them, so onto your personal naughty step they go.

I've tried the ignore function. In the end it didn't appeal. You never know when you're going to see something that makes you think, or change what's left of your mind after endlessly scrolling through the interwebs.

Ignored.

PB has gone all shy after quoting me from another thread.

What's interesting is the acres of space members spend talking about people on here that they are supposedly ignoring.

The ignore function can mean you lose the cohesiveness of the thread and miss things of value from other posters because you don't know what they are responding to. I find it easier to just mentally ignore posters as and when required.

When a person comes onto a site, stating they're only here because it's unmoderated, allowing them to post what they want, and with the stated aim of trying to get the site closed, how does that help matters?

There's one or two on here that have had two accounts, under the same username. One with a total of just 10,000 posts, in both accounts, of which two thirds amounts, to aimless twitter/X posts, how does that help any discussion?

Differs to what you've said previously.
And repeated more than once.

No, it's correct. You're the one person I put on ignore. That was because you repeatedly get the wrong end of the stick and I end up in a 20 post back and forth over something that you think I said but didn't. Your post above being another example.

I was very very reserved about using the Ignore function for similar reasons. But after far too long I got fed-up with pouring through vast numbers of Twitter posts from unknown US consipiracy theorists who lost the concept of "fact" and "truth". I have better things to do with my time. Countering all this twaddle was never and discussion, it was just one people shouting without even having a point to make.

So I eventually (and far too late) used the "ignore" in a very limited way and I still see views I don't agree with, views that make me think and those posters do engage in discussion, etc.

Same for me. There's a handful of people on here whose posts I just scroll past. I might occasionally read them if they've responded to me directly and I might even occasionally give them a like!

Ever consider that poster may have better things to do than be on here?
If I see a post worth responding to then I will.

You found time to quote me from another thread (presumably an opinion you didn't like), then type 'Ignored' underneath, so you obviously didn't this morning.

I replied on this thread before going out on my bike.
I have no idea what quote you are referring to, as I didn't.

This post. The one you made this morning but then deleted the quote and text so it now appears as a blank box. Except in the search function. Perhaps you've genuinely forgotten who/what you quoted and then told us you were ignoring.

I have used the ignore feature occasionally.

If I was in a cafe and someone was (imo) loud, ignorant and obnoxious I'd walk away. Why wouldn't I do the same here?

Equally I value posts from people who have opinions, different from mine, that they have thought out carefully. It's great when they treat us with courtesy too.

Nope. What you see is what I did, with the wording changed to white so it was invisible. There was no quote.
It was supposed to be a light hearted jokey response but obviously failed. 😞
See how this post has an indication that it has been edited while my original post does not.
