I'm not pretending we didn't. How does recognising Palestine do anything long term for those in Gaza whilst it remains under Hamas control? It seems to me that when people feel impotent about a situation they want to do something, sometimes anything, that they imagine will bring change but I don't see how a recognised Palestinian state with Hamas controlling Gaza is of benefit to Gazans. It will just entrench a terrorist organisation because they'll have the status of a legitimate government, elected or not. Will Hamas relinquish control to the Palestinian Authority?

Actions have consequences. This is the consequence of ‘us’ butting in where we weren’t wanted. No doubt because we thought we knew better.
Sovereign states are always driven by history, they aren’t just generational. What is happening now will affect how Palestine, and Ukraine etc etc are in 100 years time.

I see that Starmer is setting an ultimatum. I bet Netanyahu is quaking.
