Fortunately not everyone shares this foolish perspective, that gaining wealth is ''doing better in life''. There are no pockets in a shroud.
The lefty view is that when one has 'enough' then any surplus rightly belongs to those who do not the means or opportunities to have 'enough'. This is why a part of my income has always gone to charity. In my own case, in my early employment I never had quite enough, but later I always had more than enough.
In my case I have always tried to support the homeless, especially homeless youngsters who have been turfed out of home for doing no more than coming out to their parents.
For me it is more worthy to give a hand to those who need a hand up, than to use that hand to punch down. That's the difference between someone like me and someone more like you.
I give to charity regularly. And knowing what a teacher earns, it's pretty safe to say that I pay a lot more tax that you do. So don't give me all this 'holier than thou' crap.
