Why do you say that? I've yet to see the Syrian bit or his immigration status confirmed. It is though being reported that he was a very recent convert to Islam.

His host family (the old couple) reported that he spent several months in an instituion/clinic. If so, then he got a lot of state help - maybe he was always an outlier whom the system would struggle to "fix" (irrespective of nationality/religion etc)What now seems to be emerging is the all too common pattern of a young man with disturbed mental health.
There may have been (arguably should have been) a justified grievance over how long it took to process his Asylum claim.
