A dancer from Strictly now accused of rape. Obviously still “just” an allegation but it feels like the show is on its last legs. It’s been family viewing in our house since it started and about the only thing we all sit together to watch but it feels like it’s going downhill fast and I’ve struggled to get interested this year.

They haven’t said when this was alleged to have happened. He was arrested last month but could have happened any time in the last 20 years.

True but it's still yet another potential blow to the programme. They should probably say when it took place really.

I wonder if this was the reason for the recent resignation of the presenters

Possibly the straw that broke the camel's back or they see where things are heading. The BBC have apparently put replacing them on hold. It also seems like this latest case is almost identical to the one in August so maybe a second allegation against the same person following that. Both seem to also involve non-consensual images.

Too much competition these days. Most young people don't watch mainstream TV, they mostly stream stuff. I do think the BBC will end up taking advertising as they don't have the budget to compete with Netfix or Apple.
Apart from the Bob and Paul fishing show I can't think of a BBC show I've watched this week.

This is why the BBC and other legacy media is doomed to fail

No, a "Strictly Star" - an unnamed male celebrity. The accusation is that the rape took place in 2024. No current stars have been ejected.
The internet are conjecturing that it is Thomas Skinner although he has denied it.

You must be watching a different show to me. As far as I can see, Strictly is as good as it has ever been.

I take it you aren't paying for your TV license then?

Apart from the Bob and Paul fishing show I can't think of a BBC show I've watched this week.
Gone fishing alone is worth the license fee. It's TV therapy. There is nothing more joyous than watching Mortimer turn into a small child when they get a fish on the hook.

Obviously there is competition. I've got Witcher, Stranger Things, Sandman and Wednesday to get through on Netflix, I need to finish off The Boys and Handmaids Tale. I've got His Dark Materials to watch on the Beeb, and I'm waiting for the next SAS series. There's another Line of Duty being mooted. Strictly of course. HIGNFY when it's on although I'm cross that they dropped the extended edition. Nine bodies in a Mexican Morgue looks like it will be good. I'm waiting for the next series of Ludwig. There's a possible Inside No.9 special coming up...

I’m not sure another series of Like me of Duty is a good thing. It started out as really good TV that got gradually more ridiculous until the ‘final’ series which was ludicrous. I gave up on the second series of Rogue Heroes too having been looking forward to it.

I’m probably not a good TV critic these days though as there is hardly anything on any channel that engages me enough to invest time watching.

I remember discovering Gone Fishing: my ex walked in and asked:

"What are you watching?"

"Bob Mortimer and Paul Whitehouse fishing."

"... What? Are they any good? You don't know anything about fishing."

"Well, Bob is terrible and I know plenty about fishing, but that's really not the point."

He started shuffling around, putting his work stuff away but within 5 minutes was hooked (ha).

Ted is looking properly rickety these days, and Bob isn't in the best of health either, so I suspect this may be their last series. It certainly feels more retrospective than previous ones.

I guess my point is that shows like that just don't get made on other broadcasters, so power to the BBC for making it. Norway's "Slow TV" is the only thing I've found that comes close.
