Whilst I agree with you, I'd prefer someone in charge of Higher and Further Education to actually know about it. Just like a Justice Secretary should have worked in law (for example).

But that's quite rare, isn't it? Like Health Secretaries that have worked in healthcare. Or Ministers of Defence who are very defensive.
etc ... etc ...

I'd agree that the Lord Chancellor/SoS for Justice should be a lawyer and, furthermore, one with professional experience as a Solicitor or Barrister, maybe 5 or 7 years as required for Judicial posts. That though reflects the role of the Lord Chancellor, jointly with the Lord Chief Justice etc as guardian of Justice. Of recent poor LCs two, Truss and Grayling, were non lawyers. Raab was crap AND a lawyer but got the job because Johnson hadn't the balls to sack him over Afghanistan.

Otherwise I rather we had people who were intelligent and open minded. Plenty of processionals in the system to advise them.

What do you mean 'know about it' though? Do you mean have worked in education? Because how much does a 21 year old undergraduate really understand about the running and administration of further and higher education? Jenkyns has a degree and therefore experience of the higher education system.

In terms of politicians I'd like ministers who are able to take good advice, liaise with civil servants and experts in the field for which they have responsibility. I don't think they necessarily need to have direct personal experience. I'd also like the HoL to be properly composed of experienced experts in their fields who are able to properly scrutinise, alter and advise on government policies and proposals before they become law.

Doing a degree by correspondence course isn't much of an experience of the higher education system. It would be better to have a Minister who has both been through higher education by going to University and who has an interest or knowledge of the Education System.

I'm also down with that!

Unfortunately it only emboldened the Trussterfark, but also the faithful....
The faithful lol....to quote a Tory source "there fecked"
The only thing there we need worry about is how much more damage they can do before a election.

M People are a bit peed off that Truss used their song as walk on music.

But just read the lyrics. Could it be any worse?

“You've done me wrong, your time is up
You took a sip from the devil's cup
You broke my heart, there's no way back
Move right out of here, baby, go on pack your bags
Just who do you think you are?
Stop actin' like some kind of star”

When I was a little kid I spent a week in hospital after a fall.

Every day the nurses would ask me if I had had any movements that day.

I always said yes, because I thought that sounded right, even though I didn't have a clue what it meant.

My mum had me on the syrup of figs when I got home.
