So an MP says he will vote in favour of a policy he disagrees with in order to keep in office a PM he wants to resign.

The individual MPs are screwed. They have to vote for a policy they and their constituents do not want, in order to protect a PM that they don't want all to keep their job in the short term which they will likely lose in the next GE. Even going out with a bang is not a great prospect, although in that situation I would be tempted to cross the floor with a deal to represent the new party at the next GE.

His point does seem to make sense, in a round about way. If he votes against and is removed from the party he loses any influence he has.

OTOH if more than about 35 of them can be persuaded to vote against then they can't all have the whip withdrawn because that would mean the Tories lose their majority.
