I think there are similar concerns being raised about ministerial payoffs. If you are only Home Secretary for a few weeks, it's nonsense to get a massive golden handshake for quitting. The ministerial wage bill is rising massively.

When MPs who are Government Ministers are sacked or resign they can claim a taxpayer-funded payout equal to a quarter of their annual ministerial salary.

Cates, who represents a Red Wall seat that flipped from Labour to Conservative at the last election, also said the Tories would be "toast" at the next general election unless they tackle illegal immigration.

Yep. Really got her finger on the pulse. It's definitely illegal immigration that the people of Sheffield are going to be worried about rather than the fact that they can't heat their sodding house or afford food. And of course, she is a hypocritical god squadder.

Stocksbridge had UKIP councillors up till recently, it might be useful for her to focus on immigration. I'm not sure I'd count Penistone and Stocksbridge as Red Wall.
