Now emerging even more advice (before the appointment) ignored by Starmer
Cabinet secretary apparently advised Starmer to wait for vetting before appointing Mandelson
The then cabinet secretary, Simon Case, appeared to advise Keir Starmer to complete security vetting for Peter Mandelson before announcing an appointment, documents reveal.

Still just 'saying stuff'

Since when is a elected politician disregarding the advice of a civil servant a 'smoking gun'

Have sense will ya

when the advice given was correct and the pm has got it wrong by ignoring the advice, then tried to pretend there was nothing amiss.

It doesn't paint him in a good light

All rather pathetic. Will there be a confidence vote?

Will Robbins testimony further crush starmer as a liar

Haven't had much opportunity to follow the goings on over the weekend and today but it seems like we're no further on from where we were. He's saying he wasn't informed about the failed vetting by his civil servants and it's everyone else's fault but his. He appears at best to have been wilfully incurious in case he discovered what was always obvious to the rest of us but he's clinging onto this plausible deniability defence because it's all he's got. The fact remains that he wanted to crowbar a corrupt and toxic figure into an important and sensitive role, even after he knew about his association with a prolific paedophile and before the vetting had concluded. It's clear that he's not about to resign over it and I'm not sure what mechanism there is for his party or the opposition to force him out. Seeing how shameless he obviously is it's also quite possible that he'll try to cling onto power even after the expected total annihilation of his party in the May local elections. A lot is going to hinge on what tomorrow brings.

In further answer to @Shortfall from several days ago and having heard from Starmer
I do believe his version of events, but his version of events doesn't help him other than avoiding the immediate resignation.

I may change my mind after Robbins has his turn, but I suspect he's going to confirm Starmer didn't know about the failed vetting
