Haven't had much opportunity to follow the goings on over the weekend and today but it seems like we're no further on from where we were. He's saying he wasn't informed about the failed vetting by his civil servants and it's everyone else's fault but his. He appears at best to have been wilfully incurious in case he discovered what was always obvious to the rest of us but he's clinging onto this plausible deniability defence because it's all he's got. The fact remains that he wanted to crowbar a corrupt and toxic figure into an important and sensitive role, even after he knew about his association with a prolific paedophile and before the vetting had concluded. It's clear that he's not about to resign over it and I'm not sure what mechanism there is for his party or the opposition to force him out. Seeing how shameless he obviously is it's also quite possible that he'll try to cling onto power even after the expected total annihilation of his party in the May local elections. A lot is going to hinge on what tomorrow brings.
