Looks like Mandy might have a reprieve then if Trump is giving him the opposite of a ringing endorsement.

A maybe not-wild guess, though the buck would still stop with Starmer for outsourcing so much to McS. I think this 'outsourcing' of political and day-to-day stuff is why Starmer keeps on finding himself in trouble: neither willing to get his hands dirty in the underlying politics, nor in the actual delivery of what others have decided. He's a manager without a clear vision of why he's managing.

If Olly Robbins confirms that having just taken up the job, no10 pressured him into suppressing the failed vetting.

I cant see how starmer can continue

'The appointment had already been announced so I passed the vetting'

=/=

'The appointment had already been announced before the vetting was failed and no10 told me to ignore that'

I think he should resign for accepting Mandy as UK ambassador.

In the whole scheme of things, Reform will benefit from this fiasco.
That's the bad part.
However, with all the international noise going on, it seems that the media aren't putting the spotlight on Fagash. I wonder if the people who intend to vote for reform see the Fagash/Trump relationship as toxic, or do they blindly see steer us into hell?
Fagash as PM would be like Orban in a lot of ways.: anti-EU, prone to foreign influence, in a party prone to corruption and ineptitude.

No one in the UK will benefit from Starmer stepping down and no one will benefit if he stays on , regardless of whether he should or not.

Unless there's someone who can step up to the helm and push joining the customs union and has more conviction...

This is obviously untrue

1. Starmer benefits if he stays on as do his cabinet members
2. Those who want to be next labour leader and or next PM benefit if he goes

You may come up with other examples, but some will benefit if he stays and some will benefit if he goes

It'll be amusing to hear outrage from Reform about No10 putting pressure on civil servants when it's their policy to sack civil servants and replace them with people who'll do what No10 tell them
