Does it not also consider where individuals might have other influences (eg personal interests like their companies) and to put in place mitigations to protect against those personal interests influencing their Government role.

If we discount all those with vested interests would we even have a parliament? 🤣

That seems to be the suggestion from Robbins testimony. I am not entirely sure. I always thought it was a binary pass/fail scenario but he seems to be suggesting it is more nuanced with mitigating factors put in place, as you suggest.

The paperwork doesn't seem to tally either Robbins saying there isn't a pass or fail, but an assessment of the vetting. With indication of maybe a refusal.

However there is talk of a green/amber/red check box document with mandleson clearly placed in the red box for 'dont touch him with a barge poll'

My understanding Ifrom reliable reports) is that the concerns are in relation to Madlelson's companies and contacts with some foreign Governments (eg China and Russia). Thus Robbins put mitigations in place to protect against those concerns and thus allow the appointment to proceed.

Yes, well, that was rather my point, there was enough “dodgy” stuff on Mandy before the supposed vetting, to make him a likely candidate to join Reform, but, not to be Ambassador to the USA or any other Government position.

You never watched 'Yes minister'?

This is obviously untrue

1. Starmer benefits if he stays on as do his cabinet members
2. Those who want to be next labour leader and or next PM benefit if he goes

You may come up with other examples, but some will benefit if he stays and some will benefit if he goes

Does Britain benefit?

Poor Ollie has been sacked. Has anyone given a thought to how or where he is going to get another job? Poor chap may have a mortgage to pay.

Seems very unfair to lose a career because of the failings of others you [Robbins] has no control over.

Happening to too many who work for Starmer; says something (not good) about Starmer.

Quite, but, so far, I have seen any expressions of sympathy for Ollie (not just here)
