As some may rush to tell me, lefties don't find this funny:

It's not funny because it's disingenuous. Cuba today has poverty precisely *because* of capitalism. The US embargo has done immense damage to Cuba. A photo in a Cuba slum compared to a photo in the capital is also disingenuous.

Similarly the photo of Singapore in the 1950s is deliberately chosen to make it look more poverty stricken than it was. Not only that but Singapore was a British Colony in the 1950s and therefore a capitalist society. It has never been a socialist society. Here are some more photos from the 1950s

Cuba is constrained by capitalist states. If you needed laser eye surgery, you are much better served in Cuba. If the love of money is a greater priority than love of fellow man, then you are better served in Trump's America. The choice of which place you live in is constrained by Trumpian policies.

Mostly agree. The UK IS a socialist state. It's the way the majority of people say they like it. Yes Reform may be polling at 30% or so, but that is not a majority. On the other hand 84% of UK people, according to one survey, think the NHS is a much better model of healthcare provision than other countries.

It is a source of national pride, and proves that the UK favours collective responsibility over alternatives. The UK is a socialist state - a troublesome concept to those who think that the political divide is the binary choice of capitalism or communism. Increasingly people are frustrated by increasing awareness that we are creeping away from being a democratic socialist state. That awareness being shouted down as ''wokeness''. The rhetoric of the right is that the social contract itself is a harm that must be destroyed. The argument being that human rights are a harm that must be destroyed in order to protect ourselves from ''wokeness''. At one time authoritarian states were criticised by the right wing, now they are lionised.

You are right to call out political propaganda disguised as satire. People need to be alert to the fact that a dysfunctional election system can bring about electoral victory for a minority vote leading to further decay to the fabric of our infrastructure and lubricant of social cohesion.

We'll have to agree to disagree. The UK is capitalist with a strong welfare state. Economically we still lean towards free markets and private ownership.

Who says that socialism excludes work and trade? The Labour Party, a socialist Party, has always been about work and trade. The central tenet is a balancing of the gains of production on a more equitable basis than unconstrained liberalism, all the time keeping workers employed. If you look at the income and spending regimes of Labour and Conservatives over the years, the difference have been surprisingly small. Public ownership unleashed by Thatcher is failing. There is widespread approval of renationalisation schemes especially of railways and water.
