I'm not saying Edwards has built his career around a family man persona as I've never seen him on anything but the news, but rightly or wrongly there's going to be public interest, especially concerning the age difference, if you're a news reader or morning TV host, than if you're an aging rocker.

This is exactly the sort of comment that drives me mad! You're just shrugging your shoulders at the lurid fascination and moralising by others, and passively justifying it. It's only a small step to publishing a news story about it...

I can see your point that the papers encourage this and it might be wrong to moralise over someone's private life if nothing illegal has taken place. I'd want to hear a good case to convince me; in general someone's private life is not a public matter, until shown otherwise.

A good first basis could be; Does this actually affect the public?
