I don't think the person is still a teenager. The only statement we have heard from the person is that all the allegations made by the parents are rubbish. If person A says it didn't happen and person B says it didn't happen and the Police say no crime was committed, then that's it.

Anything else is lurid speculation.

It appears to be accepted some contact was happening for about four years.

There are an estimated eight other complainants.

Little is known of their cases, so you could also try to talk those away as well.

Sod it. let's just give Edwards a knighthood.

Appears. Seems. Might have.
All of this is conjecture or in Sun terms rowlocks.

No, but let's not get excited that the same newspaper that printed topless pictures of Samantha Fox aged 16 is now trying to run a potential non-story about the private life of a news reader, who thus far has not been proven to have done anything illegal.

I'm not saying Edwards has built his career around a family man persona as I've never seen him on anything but the news, but rightly or wrongly there's going to be public interest, especially concerning the age difference, if you're a news reader or morning TV host, than if you're an aging rocker.

This is exactly the sort of comment that drives me mad! You're just shrugging your shoulders at the lurid fascination and moralising by others, and passively justifying it. It's only a small step to publishing a news story about it...

Not really. It's just acknowledgement that it's human nature for people to be interested in these things and the more pristine and wholesome the person, the more interest it will generate. I can see your point that the papers encourage this and it might be wrong to moralise over someone's private life if nothing illegal has taken place. At what point does it become a bona fide public interest matter?

A perusal of the recent public prints suggests your news judgement is a little off beam.
Not really. Sensationalisation of something that you made up sells news papers. It doesn't make it a genuine news story.

Mind you - good to see that Dan Wooton is now getting a taste of his own medicine.

OK, we can agree on that

I'd want to hear a good case to convince me; in general someone's private life is not a public matter, until shown otherwise.

A good first basis could be; Does this actually affect the public?

(The NUJ have a whole page about it, but our forum press rep tells me they're not to be trusted, so 🤷‍♀️

Oh noe..

My wokey leftie dickism swoons in terror at such trenchent expositions..

I'm sure he knows what he means in his own wee noggin, but meanwhile he comes across as a proper tinfoil nutter alerting us to the imminent danger of being swamped by all the gays, the blacks, the trans, the workers, and the radical wimmin, furiously demanding that we be treated justly ...

Who exactly is the enemy in your mind??

It's already too late. The Barbie movie has ended the patriarchy...
