Some good news folks. Apparently Rishi's government is going to get behind creating a specific criminal offence for stealing cats and dogs. Anyone convicted would be subject to punishments ranging from a fine to up to 5 years in prison.

Currenty the theft of a pet is covered by the non-specific Theft Act. The punishment for theft ranges from a fine to up to 6 years in prison.

So good news for anyone thinking of stealing a pet!!

The desperation of this lot to try and do things to win votes is frankly depressing.

Ms Clarke omitted to mention to people that an offence already exists with the potential for harsher punishment than that proposed.

Is it specifically cats and dogs as it's being reported? Or any pet as it seems to read in the article? I find the coverage a bit discriminatory.

The short answer is just dogs and cats.
Looking at the bill, it is divided into 3 sections: abduction of dogs, abduction of cats and "abduction of other animals commonly kept as pets".
However, the seemingly catch all of other animals is not what it first appears. A species would need to be brought into the legislation by an appropriate national authority. - Generally speaking, the Secretary of State by means of a statutory instrument.

Absolutely. A neighbour used to do that and it did my head in. More recently one of mine did a runner for the same reason. All amicable and she's happy, but I have a different attitude to cats than most people I think.

It's just the rules. Fuss them, stroke them, play with them but don't feed them and don't let them in your house.

Yeah, I had that conversation with her. She didn't get it and thought she was helping. Hey ho, some people can be like that I guess.

It's not even as if the deer is doing anything unusual.

It might have been a story if it was this one -



... and they could have followed it up with an interview with Derek Adams explaining why he hadn't been signed by the Staggies, who failed to score in their 0 - 3 defeat to Partick Thistle in the Scottish Cup yesterday.
