See post #3,364.

Now before jowwy gets his panties in a bunch, I know that's not a direct effect of Brexit, and I know he voted Labour.

D'you think he actually did in 2019 though? He cheerfully went put his paw print cross in a box explicitly supporting a second Brexit referendum and that dreadful Jermoline Crumblyn monster?

Seems a bit hard to swallow, considering.

Pity the hard border and passport control wasn't implemented more ifficiently then, a good opportunity to create more jobs maybe?

It hardly snook up on anyone did it?

The EU knew what controls were going to be implemented by them. I.e a hard border. HMG either didn't believe how the UK would be treated at the hard border, or they chose to ignore it. And I would suggest the former, given the immediate impact on the fishing industry and the steps which have been taken re the Irish border.
Either way, it is they and not the EU which have created this sh1t show.

Doug Bannister, chief executive of the Port of Dover, has said that extra checks needed since Brexit were causing longer transaction times at border control, after French politician Pierre-Henri Dumont blamed Brexit for the disruption seen on Friday.

Bannister told the Today programme:
We are operating in a post-Brexit environment which does mean that passports need to be checked, they need to be stamped and indeed the capable people that do man the booths – police aux frontieres – they’re doing their job that they need to do now.

Well the government choose not to fund a doubling of passport control booths for the French to do their passport checks so they just don't care.

That may well be the case, however, as Ian posted

If we want to process more people the answer would seem to be, at least in the short term, more people stamping passports.
But these are French jobs, I'm not sure the French would want the UK border force to be stamping UK passports on their behalf, maybe they would, but if they won't who pays for those extra French border guards, why should the French put their hands in their pockets because the UK took back control of their borders.

Have a look at my post 2 or 3 above this one. We had the opportunity to double the capacity of passport check booths but didn't bother.

I saw that Salty  Cookie posted a link to the same too.
My point was as much to do with the ongoing cost of wages etc as it was to do with the actual infrastructure needed.

However, in times like these, we need to take comfort that we have people like Raab in government.

"We are, and I hadn't quite understood the full extent of this, but if you look at the UK and if you look at how we trade in goods, we are particularly reliant on the Dover-Calais crossing."

Did they not have to show their passports before then….i mean, ive been going abroad for the past 30yrs and have always had to show my passport and my boarding passes before being allowed aboard.

whats the difference now, they just got to add a stamp??? I mean it hardly takes a second or two if the stamp is already in your hand.

You do understand that voting for a particular party in a general election implicitly means you endorse both the party's policies and its leadership, and that you wish them to form a government and act on their manifesto pledges?

And what 'bullshit claims' are you talking about? Anyone in particular you think is lying about their voting habits?

The issue is that French border police have to carry out more rigorous passport checks that could involve assessing visas, specific entry dates – UK citizens can now only stay in the EU for 90 in 180 days without a visa, etc.

Prior to Brexit, these passport checks were more cursory.

Perhaps there's more to being a border guard than just lacking a sense of humour?

According to the article, the situation is likely to get worse when the EU introduce their new system.

The situation could get even worse later in the year when the EU rolls out its new Entry/Exit System (EES), set for implementation from September.
The EES will verify the details of non-EU citizens entering and exiting the Schengen area, including name and passport details, entry and exit dates, a photograph and fingerprints, and will replace the need for a passport stamp.
It is essentially an electronic passport check.
Mr Reardon, head of EU Exit at the Port of Dover, has been warning about issues this could cause for nearly a year.
