it doesn't matter if its rounding, you cant show one data value and then show a different one due to rounding in the narrative....show the same data value and then people cant question it.

Show the data to 1 decimal place then you can see the actual figures correctly. Its funy how people on here want to keep putting me down on my grammar and spelling, but are quite happy with a company that gets paid to put out polling data to put incorrect workings.

Talk about double standards.

You can if you also point out the marginal differences between figures and visualisations in your notes. Which I included at the foot of my copy/paste.

I suspect the difference between 32+28=60 and the reference to 59% is because of rounding.

Indeed, this comment appears on pretty much every graphics display.

Rounding adjustments are not incorrect workings.

This is not double standards at all but well established practice around the world in presenting data.

There is nothing misleading or confusing about it.

AHH but you see, now we've brexitted we don't have to fall into line with how 'the rest of the world' does data roundings..

We can make up our own 'sovrin' method of data rounding.
And it's bound to be better because ..
...well, because we say so .

No matter that it will make us a laughing stock in the world of statistical analysis, nor that our system is incompatible with anyone elses...
If we mix it all up with reverting to imperial at the same time, we can make a right proper sovrin mess of all of it -- Hurrah !!!

I spent quite a lot of time in Europe, this autumn chatting with other Europeans about brexit.
They seemed quite mystified by it all too.
Could see that we were suffering losses, and how badly it's going..

Thankfully none of them were crowing about 'well you made your own bed' or anything like that.

Almost all were very sympathetic, and had general good wishes, if not outright optimism, for the chances of our reintegrating at some point...

Of course it may also have been the circumstances of our meeting, and the fact that I'm a staunch, and vocal about it remainer / rejoiner, that also affected their reaction..
So I place no particular statistical weight upon my anectdatal experiences..

Brexit has turned-out as a national dirty-protest, it's now that brexiteers are grasping the fact we were wearing a nappy....

I know, depressing isn't it..??

So now and then, I feel the need to offload a measure of splenetic, yet ultimately futile, sarcastic vitriol, via the relative anonymity of an obscure internet forum..

'Cowardly' you say ??🤔

Perhaps...

But at least it stops me being quite so directly rude to the faces of the real life brexitters I almost inevitably come across in my daily ramblings ...

Sort of cheap therapy , I s'pose .

I've long given-up pussy-footing around brexiteers even in meatspace.
This policy also applies to Tory voters....

No doubt, in other circs I'd be the same.

But I'm obliged to engage with these sorts both professionally, and politically, so have to keep as civil a tongue in my head, as I can, wherever possible.

I'm generally pretty open about my feelings on it all, and I mean no rational person can really claim it's all going swimmingly anyhow, Its just I have to temper the language a bit.

I rarely have such restraints, though I did have to interact on a professional basis with a Trump supporter...my lip's still sore!

And the reason for it that presenting decimal places makes the presentation of the data less clear. Unless you actually need precision data - you round. And this is true everywhere - not just stats.

If you are monitoring a patient's weight you measure to 1 decimal place in Kg, you don't write down every gram (unless your patient is a baby, in which case you do go to the gram level, but don't worry about the microgrammes) etc. Although historically some clinicians have written birth and baby weights in kg which wreaks havoc when you migrate that data from one system to another that is expecting grams only or kg only (or vice versa). Giant babies or micro babies are the result - so you throw in a data fix which says that if child x is at this age or below then weight must be between this range, otherwise multiply or divide accordingly etc.

Clarity is often more important than absolute precision.
