What effin' kind of Brexit was he expecting?
I keep hearing this from Brexit supporters suffering voters remorse....
I would say that they were lied to, but leave voters repeatedly have told me that they knew that they voted for and that it doesn't matter because all campaigns lied. Someone should remind Next's bosses they knew this was coming and to stop whining.

Or they could admit their mistake and start help rebuilding.

Brexit is certainly entwined within some of these setbacks.

Apparently Next are moaning that we need to get more people into the country to fill all their jobs (at minimum wages fo course)

In a totally different new item that keeps cropping up - loads of people have come over here on small boats across the Channel wanting to come into our country but don't have permission and so have to be export (sorry - deported) to Rwanda

If only there was some middle way - some sort of synergy where these 2 problems could be merged to produce a solution???

Guess we will never know
My heart bleeds...if he can't fill the roles, increase the wages !

That just gets us all into an inflationary spiral of costs and wages rising.
He also mentioned fruit pickers, factor workers, even vets.
The sensible solution is to allow more workers in to do the jobs that need doing by the people who have the skills to do them.

The sensible solution....A vocal supporter of leaving the EU urging the goverment to let more foreign workers in !
He now has the option of offering better pay and conditions to attract staff to his firm.
Own it or suck it up Simon.

Congratulations to the brexit voters of Wiltshire, Avon tyres is shutting up shop and moving production to the continent. The brexit triumph continues!

"My son started there as an apprentice. He was nearly barred from the tea room because he admitted to voting remain. Oh dear how sad."

Why is it due to Brexit though?

I read the article and it said "the site had struggled to be competitive for some considerable time".

Only the manufacturing side of things is shutting, the EU HQ will still be in Melksham, so will a small amount of specialist tyre manufacture.

I don't see where the confirmation that manufacturing will all move to the continent has been confirmed.

It is also worth noting that Avon Tyres is only a sub-brand now of Cooper Tires, and has been since 1997, they are based in Ohio.

The factory is just down the road from me, it's been Cooper tyres for a long time. Presumably they're moving production to get around the brexit red tape - apparently they export a lot to the EU. The company is apparently considering moving production to either the EU or (bizzarely) Siberia. 300 jobs would be a big loss for Melksham though.
