Am I alone in wondering whether the actions over the last few months are more about the Royals realising what would come out in the press, than they are a reaction to learning about them for the first time?

I hate defending the royals, but...

Maybe they are learning that the old "mystery" doesn't work and they can no longer hide stuff away. Maybe they will be more open in future and maybe openness will translate to a smaller institution.

'Mystery' or that they just live in a bubble?

Surely the point where background considerations were being discussed was immediately after the BBC interview?

I’m really struggling to see anything wrong with the statement at all.
(And generally to others replying similarly)

Maybe I'm not explaining well but also appreciate others won't make the same interpretation as I do.
eg If one of my siblings were arrested in connection with a crime serious enough to potentially carry a life imprisonment sentence and I made a public statement "the law must take its course" - people would be thinking of course it should and will and what a daft thing to for me to say.

That king said it suggests there was the possibility that the law would not take its course. And given how many laws different bits of roaylty are exempt from (laws that we all have to obey) to me it highlights the unjustifiable privilege and interference in our democratic governance system.

Comparing the situation of an anonymous cycling forum poster with one of the most famous (and dysfunctional) families in the world under constant scrutiny from the press isn't very useful.

It’s basically a way of saying we’ve got nothing to say on the matter and are leaving it in the hands of the right people who will do their job. If they just don’t say anything they’ll get criticised and there’s not really anything else they can say.

Do a survey of similar news reports; when family members are asked about someone accused of A Bad Thing, I suspect almost all will protest their innocence (or at least make some strong mitigating statement).

Haha. Bravo! They even titled it underneath "He's Sweating Now" 🤣

If I am correct, Andy was arrested for alleged misconduct, Not alleged sexual allegations. Or is that simply the police being polite? Does this mean that they have been questioning him about passing over classified info. or are they looking at other things?
If pandy Andy get's formerly charged over divulging classified info., does that necessarily open a lid on allegations of anything sexually related?
Perhaps it's just assumed that subsidiarity royals (of the male variety at least) are sexually incontinent, so no need to sweat about that aspect. Mentioning state secrets to Epstein is obviously far worse than ruining the lives of a few young women.

Maybe also that in the past on several occasions the Police have "declined" to investigate the sexual allegations (despite a victim coming forward). So to suddenly change their minds now might look like a bit of a "we were wrong".

But in their searches for information about the confidential state reports they should happen across other evidence ...

Getting the latter ^ to stick might be more difficult.
Anyway, more stuff is coming to light all the time. Unlike the US, there is no statute of limitations when reporting a crime.
